25’ TRIMARAN FOR SALE

$45,000.-

An unusually good looking and fast boat, the design was a collaboration between Russell Brown and Paul Bieker.

Nigel Irens designed the outrigger hulls.

Built by Russell Brown in 1998 for an ideal client who was more concerned about the construction and weight of the boat than the cost.  This shows in the finish and detail work, and in the overall weight, 950 pounds.

Construction is wood / epoxy for most of the main hull, carbon and foam for the outrigger hulls, and carbon crossarms, wing mast & boom.

Humdinger offers performance not often seen is a trimaran this size.  It is light because of it’s minimal volume and careful construction.

Much weight savings come from the connective structure. The crossarms on this boat are supported by wires (sea stays), and slide into molded sleeves in the main hull and outrigger hulls.  It does not fold like some trailerable trimarans, but all four crossarms weigh only 65 pounds.

The outrigger hulls were built in female molds from carbon and Divinecell and weigh 105 lbs each.   The weight (950 lbs) is everything including motor.

This boat will “break free” much sooner than most trailerable trimarans.

The central cockpit is comfortable, secure, and much quieter than an aft cockpit. It also puts the weight of the crew closer to the center of the boat.

Humdinger is not recommended for hard racing in the ocean or San Francisco bay.  While it can take a thrashing, it was built for performance in less-than-extreme conditions

Assembly and disassembly takes about two hours, but could be closer to an hour with some changes. The boat is very narrow with low windage on the trailer and tows well with a smaller vehicle.

The boat was fresh water sailed and garage stored for the first half of it’s life and lightly used since. Well equipped with a simple but serious electrical system, auto-pilot, speed/depth, lights.

A new (never used) main and working jib (Smythe sails) and a new set of trampolines come with the boat as well. A good spinnaker and a screecher also included.

Aft cabin, 6’2” long, sleeps one believe it or not. Aft cabin generally used to hold sails, fenders etc..

Companionway hatch is easily removable and stows in aft cabin. This provides easy access to cabin, halyard locks on mast, etc..

A set of molds for this trimaran are also for sale.

The price is negotiable, but very reasonable to the right person.

There are 5 female molds available.

The main hull bottom mold and molds for the fwd and aft cabins were made from the original (strip planked) boat as a way to more easily  reproduce the shapes.

The topsides of the main hull are flat panel construction, but the underbody of the main hull is a molded shape.

The outrigger hulls, designed by Nigel Irens, are built in molds that split down the centerline.

Two sets of hulls have been built from these molds and they are very accurate and fair.
